Well-Paid: GA Lottery Winners Rack Up Millions In Prizes
Between scratch-offs, digital games and traditional game tickets, more than $5 million have been recently won in the Georgia Lottery.
ATLANTA, GA — Two Georgia residents scored more than $1 million each in Saturday's Fantasy 5 drawing, Georgia Lottery officials said Monday.
The winning tickets were bought on the Georgia Lottery mobile app by a Fairburn resident and at a Valdosta gas station, lottery officials said. The victors each won $1,064,097.
They matched the five white-ball numbers of 15, 22, 24, 33 and 41.

Additionally, a Scarboro resident on Wednesday claimed $2 million in the Kings of Diamonds game. The winning ticket was bought from a Columbus gas station, lottery officials said.
In Hephzibah, someone won $1 million playing 50x the Money with a ticket from a convenience store. Lottery officials said the lucky winner on Thursday pocketed $809,000 in cash.

Georgia Lottery players won $40,716,652 playing scratch-off games last week, lottery officials said.
Other prizes last week were as follows:
- A Decatur resident won $261,229 playing 50x the Money Quick Win on Sunday.
- A player in Marietta won $50,000 playing Multiply the Cash on Wednesday
- A Lithonia player won $30,000 playing Lucky Coins on Sunday
- An Athens resident won $10,000 playing Wild Star Multiplier on Friday
All funding from the Georgia Lottery's digital games, scratch-offs and other games benefit education in the Peach State, lottery officials said. They noted $29.5 billion has been allocated for Georgia's HOPE scholarship, the state's pre-kindergarten program and other educational initiatives.
Online winning tickets in Georgia have an expiration date of 180 days from the drawing date while instant ticket winners have 90 days from the expired date to claim prizes. Instructions on how to receive prizes are on the Georgia Lottery's website.
Georgia takes 5.75 percent in state taxes and 24 percent in federal taxes for winnings more than $5,000.
"The GLC reports to the IRS and Georgia Department of Revenue the names of winners of prizes above $600. ... Additionally, the GLC is required to check for and deduct any outstanding child support payments for prizes of $2,500 and above and student loans and state taxes for prizes of $5,000 and above, net of wager or ticket cost," lottery officials said on the Georgia Lottery website.
