3 Atlanta Restaurants Among 100 Most Romantic In America: Study

Ahead of Valentine's Day, OpenTable compiled a list of the most romantic restaurants in the country — and 3 Atlanta eateries made the cut.

ATLANTA, GA — Looking for a restaurant to take your sweetheart for Valentine's Day? Look no further — three Atlanta restaurants have been named one of the most romantic restaurants in the country.

OpenTable, a restaurant reservation company, analyzed more than 12.4 million diner reviews to come up with a list of the 100 most romantic restaurants in the country, and Atlanta's Marcel in West Midtown, Bones in Buckhead and Poor Calvin's in Midtown are among them.

Marcel

Calling Marcel a "first-rate steakhouse and bar," OpenTable highlights the French cuisine and ambiance that take front page in homage to the restaurant's namesake.

"Named after Marcel Cerdan, the iconic French fighter and romantic, Marcel transports guests to the days when people appreciated every moment, when dull care was forgotten, when love lingered over the best meals — including, pound-for-pound, the best steaks money can buy," OpenTable's description reads.

While popular menue items like the steak frites and the Beef Wellington accentuate the ample list of steak cuts and entree's, the award-winning wine list steals the show, earning Marcel regocnition by Wine Enthusiast Magazine as one of America's 100 Best Wine Restaurants.

Located on Howell Mill Road in West Midtown's Westside Provisions District, the restaurant has a 4.8-star rating on OpenTable and most entrees start in price from $50, according to the company.

Bones

OpenTable said the restaurant has won the "highest marks for food and service" above all U.S. steakhouses from Zagat. With a variety of cuts of premium steak, from filet mignon to dry-aged porterhouse, and plenty of alternative options — loin lamb chops or veal rib chop — and add-ons like lobster, foie gras, shrimp or crab, Bones has something for everyone.

"By providing the finest quality food with an acclaimed wine cellar, there is no wonder why Bones has been recognized for the last 40 years as the benchmark of style in Atlanta," OpenTable's description reads.

Located on Piedmont Road near the heart of Buckhead, the restaurant has a 4.8-star rating on OpenTable and most entrees start in price from $50, according to the company.

Poor Calvin's

OpenTable gives Poor Calvin's a fresh spin. "The East-meets-South brand of fusion happening at Poor Calvin's? It's creative; it's innovative; and it's probably unlike anything you've tasted in the ATL," the OpenTable description reads.

Here the mixture of southern classics like fried chicken, sea bass, macaroni and cheese and collard greens with a hint of Asian inspiration and spice only adds to an atmosphere created by good service and inventive cocktails.

Located on Piedmont Road in Midtown, just a mile-and-a-half south of Piedmont Park, the restaurant has a 4.8-star rating on OpenTable and most entrees range in price from $31-$50, according to the company.

The three eateries are among seven Georgia restaurants to make the cut: Alligator Soul and Elizabeth on 37th, both in Savannah; Canoe in Vining; and Frankie's the Steakhouse in Duluth were the others.

OpenTable compiled its list ahead of Valentine's Day, when restaurants will likely see a resurgence of couples dining out after two years of lower numbers because of the COVID-19 pandemic, officials said.

"Our data suggests that Valentine's Day dining is rebounding this year, with reservations up 30% nationwide compared to last year," said Susan Lee, chief growth officer at OpenTable. "We're excited to see this momentum leading up to what has traditionally been one of the biggest dining days of the year for restaurants."
