GA Lottery Winners Score $42M+ In Scratch-Off Prizes

Aside from millions won in scratch-offs, Georgia Lottery officials say someone secured a $2 million Mega Millions prize.

Georgia players have won huge prizes in the last several days, earning millions in lottery winnings, officials have announced.

In an update released Wednesday, Georgia Lottery officials said a Carrollton resident on Monday hit the $217,570 Cleopatra Clusters Diggi game jackpot.

On Wednesday, a Savannah resident became $100,000 richer when they played the Fortune Skies Diggi game, lottery officials said.

Two players won $50,000 each in Monday's Powerball drawing. The tickets were purchased at gas stations in Union City and Cumming and matched four of the five white-ball numbers plus the Powerball, lottery officials said.

Lucky winners claimed more than $42 million in lottery scratch-off prizes last week, lottery officials said Tuesday.

Among the most notable, a Cedartown resident won $5 million with a Max the Money scratch-off ticket bought from a Piedmont Highway store, lottery officials said. The prize was claimed on June 20 in the cash amount of $2,579,679.

There was a million-dollar winner in Decatur after someone was victorious on June 18 in the Xtreme Cash scratch-off game. The winning ticket was bought at a Lawrenceville Highway convenience store, lottery officials said.

In total, lottery officials said players won $42,811,463 in scratch-off prizes.

Scratch-off games were not solely lucrative for Georgia Lottery players.

A $2 million Mega Millions prize was won on June 20 in Gainesville. Lottery officials said the winning ticket, purchased on the Georgia Lottery mobile app, matched the five white ball numbers and had a 2x Megaplier.

The massive Mega Millions winnings doubled the standard game prize, lottery officials said.

In the June 18 Powerball drawing, a ticket bought at a Duluth convenience store was worth $50,000 for a lucky winner, lottery officials said.

The ticket, bought at a Peachtree Industrial Boulevard store, matched four of the five white-ball numbers and the Powerball.

Two Georgia Five tickets garnered $10,000 for winners who bought their tickets from a New Hope Road gas station in Lawrenceville. The tickets were from the June 20 midday drawing, lottery officials said.

As for the Diggi games, a Guyton resident won $30,000 on June 19 playing Lucky Coins, and a Leary resident won $15,000 on June 18 playing Dragons Palace of Fortunes, lottery officials said.

On Friday, $348 million is up for grabs in the upcoming Mega Millions drawing. In Powerball, players have a chance to score $140 million Wednesday.

All funding from the Georgia Lottery's digital games, scratch-offs and other games benefit education in the Peach State, lottery officials said. They noted $29.5 billion has been allocated for Georgia's HOPE scholarship, the state's pre-kindergarten program and other educational initiatives.

Online winning tickets in Georgia have an expiration date of 180 days from the drawing date while instant ticket winners have 90 days from the expired date to claim prizes. Instructions on how to receive prizes are on the Georgia Lottery's website.

Georgia takes 5.75 percent in state taxes and 24 percent in federal taxes for winnings more than $5,000.

"The GLC reports to the IRS and Georgia Department of Revenue the names of winners of prizes above $600. ... Additionally, the GLC is required to check for and deduct any outstanding child support payments for prizes of $2,500 and above and student loans and state taxes for prizes of $5,000 and above, net of wager or ticket cost," lottery officials said on the Georgia Lottery website.
