$980M Mega Millions Jackpot Won In GA, Largest In State History

One lucky person in Georgia won Friday night's massive $980 million Mega Millions jackpot, the largest ever won in the state and its first since November 2016.

Friday's winning numbers were 1, 8, 11, 12 and 57, plus the gold Mega Ball 7. The winning ticket was sold at Publix, located at 4000 N. Highway 29 in Newnan, about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta.

The jackpot, the eighth-largest in the game's history, has an estimated cash value of $452.2 million.

The jackpot is the highest single payout in Georgia Lottery history, surpassing the previous record held when one Powerball ticket sold in Buford for the Oct. 23, 2024, drawing won a $478.2 million jackpot. Two people shared the prize and selected the cash option of $230.6 million.

“We are thrilled to congratulate the largest winner in our state’s history,” Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin said in a statement. "With every Mega Millions ticket sold in Georgia supporting HOPE and Pre-K, Georgia’s students and families are also big winners. We appreciate our players and retailers for their support of our mission.”

In Georgia, Mega Millions winners have 180 days from the draw date to claim prizes. Georgia Lottery players are reminded to check their tickets for one of the nine ways to win.

One $3 million winning ticket was also sold in Michigan, according to the Mega Millions website, meaning they matched all five white balls

the longest streak without a jackpot winner since the game began in 2002, and the previous record of 37 drawings was set in January 2021, when a $1.050 billion jackpot was won in Michigan.

In Friday's drawing, there were 1,112,941 winning tickets at all prize levels, plus the single jackpot-winning ticket. A total of 347 third-tier prizes, ranging from $20,000 to $100,00, were won in 40 different states, according to Mega Millions.

The jackpot for the next drawing on Tuesday resets to $50 million. Mega Millions drawings are held twice a week on Tuesday and Friday nights at 11 p.m. ET.
