Deadly Police Chase Kills Accused Gunman In Fulton County
Authorities said a man pulled out a gun during a police chase in Fulton County, where officers fatally shot the man.
ATLANTA, GA — A man was fatally shot Thursday near Martin Luther King Drive after being accused of brandishing a gun during a police chase, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.
The GBI identified the man as Damario Smith, 24, of Atlanta. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital, the GBI said.
Fulton County Police was on a suspicious persons call near the 3500 block of Martin Luther King when the GBI said several people ran upon the officers' arrival.

Police chased Smith, who ran across the street to his car. Then, the GBI said Smith refused to comply with the officers' commands.
Once in the car, the GBI said Smith pulled out a handgun, and officers shot him to death. A gun was found in his possession, the GBI said.

No officers were injured in the shooting, the GBI said.
Once the GBI's investigation is completed, the case file will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
