Passenger Traffic Grew By 76 Percent In 2021 At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport saw more than 75 million passengers in 2021 after a travel downturn in 2020.
ATLANTA, GA — Air travel to and from Atlanta rebounded significantly one year after a steep downturn as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 75 million passengers flew through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 2021, a 76-percent increase over the 42.9 million passengers in 2020, according to a report airport authorities released last week.
The spike in travel, shown on the airport operating statistics page, was reflected by a total of 707,661 takeoffs and landings last year, a 29-percent increase over the previous year, officials said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic brought on unprecedented challenges,” Airport General Manager Balram “B” Bheodari said. “Our 2021 success is a testament to the hard work of the ATL team who consistently demonstrate their commitment to excellence in safety, efficiency and service. I am incredibly proud of our ATL team and anticipate an even more successful 2022.”
Cargo traffic moving through the Atlanta airport increased by 22 percent, the report also showed. Airport officials said more than 730,000 metric tons of cargo flew into and out of the airport as part of continued growth to Hartsfield-Jackson’s cargo operation.
