“Year after year, my Student Advisory Council is an invaluable resource as I make decisions that impact students across the state,” Woods said. “Getting to know these students and seeking their feedback and perspectives allows all of us at the Georgia Department of Education to make the best possible policy choices.”
The council will meet with Woods throughout the year to discuss how state policies will affect the classroom, state education officials said.

Students in grades 10 through 12 from all regions of the state are represented on the Council and they were selected from a pool of more than 1,000 students based on their essay answers outlining their ideas about public education. At least four students from every Regional Educational Service Area in Georgia were chosen, officials said.
