- Four people were wounded in a shooting in the Atlanta University Center area according to officials. Police on duty reported hearing gunfire around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday near the Robert W. Woodruff Library. The gunfire came from a Clark Atlanta University Homecoming party. Three victims were transported to the hospital, and a fourth refused medical attention. (Atlanta Patch)
- As of Nov. 1, the Atlanta Medical Center will completely close, putting stress on other area hospitals. Mercy Care representatives report that they expect the number of patients to easily double on a typical weekday without the Atlanta Medical Center. Mercy Care is normally used by homeless, low-income, or uninsured patients who will now have longer wait times or limited access to services due to the increase in patients. (WSB Radio)
- Atlanta's first cold front of the season could break several weather records this upcoming week. Temperatures are expected to drop 20 degrees below average, and frost will be likely across metro Atlanta. Tuesday is expected to be the coldest afternoon with a high of only low to mid 50s. - On Saturday, the Atlanta Police Department hosted a gun buyback event to help take guns off of the streets. The program is part of mayor Andre Dickens' One Safe City initiative. The city paid $50 for handguns and $100 for long guns. According to the police department, officials collected a total of 302 weapons, distributing over $23,000. (WSB Atlanta)
- Former President Obama is expected to come to the metro Atlanta area on Oct. 28 in support of Stacey Abrams. His appearance is being pitched as a grassroots event to encourage Georgia residents to vote during the last week of early in-person voting. (11Alive.com WXIA)
