An incident report from Atlanta police shows Zulu was shot in his back.

According to the report, the three men were taken to Grady and Piedmont Hospital, where one man was pronounced dead.

Zulu turned himself into the Fulton County Jail on Sept. 13, police said. Jail records show he was released the same day on bond.

According to CBS46, his attorneys released a statement claiming self-defense.

According to the statement, Zulu had been jumped from behind by at least four people and "was forced to defend himself."

"Mr. Zulu was shot in the back during the shooting and nearly lost his life, and is still recovering from the nearly fatal injuries he sustained that evening. Mr. Zulu was at his place of business that night and had every right to defend himself. In an attempt to save his life, Mr. Zulu lawfully discharged his weapon in self-defense, a weapon that he is licensed to carry," the statement said.
