- Georgians are facing the brunt of cold and flu season. Local pharmacies are struggling to keep up with the demand for seasonal over-the-counter medications, and chains across the country are experiencing the same issue. People are stocking up on popular medications such as Tylenol and Advil, leaving others without. (WSB Atlanta)
- A woman who spent five months in jail on false drug charges was awarded over $1 million. The jury in federal court found Atlanta police falsely accused the unidentified woman of hiding cocaine inside an exercise ball after being stopped on the street for jaywalking. After spending a month in jail, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation found the substance was not cocaine, but she remained in prison for an additional four months. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Although economists predict a recession in 2023, Atlanta is expected to handle it gracefully due to the strong labor market and developments creating investment opportunities in the state. - Atlanta police held a "Stop the Bleed" active shooter training effort at a downtown LGBTQ nightclub. The training was held exactly one month after a mass shooting occurred at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado. Police Chief Darin Schierbaum wanted to be proactive and show the community what to do and how to help if anything were to happen in the area. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Atlanta’s 39th annual United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Atlanta Mayor’s Masked Ball raised $2 million over the weekend. The fundraising gala and social event focus on increasing awareness of the need for a college education, the students the UNCF serves, and the contributions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
