NCAA Division I college football games get underway this weekend, with Georgia Tech's opener approaching.

ATLANTA — NCAA Division I college football begins this weekend, with fans of the Georgia Institute of Technology, better known as Georgia Tech, eager to kick off the season.
Georgia Tech will open its football slate on Sept. 4 at home against the Northern Illinois University Huskies at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, according to the school’s schedule as shared by FBSchedules.com.
Other big matchups this season include home stands against the No. 10 ranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels on Sept. 25 (at Mercedes-Benz Stadium), against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Oct. 30, and against state rivals the No. 5 ranked University of Georgia Bulldogs on Nov. 27. The Yellow Jackets will also face off against the No. 3 ranked Clemson Tigers on the road at Memorial Stadium on Sept. 18, and travel to South Florida to face the University of Miami Hurricanes on Nov. 6.
The ACC Championship will be Dec. 4 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Only time will tell if the Yellow Jackets can make it to this game.

College football returns to a more traditional schedule in 2021, a year after the coronavirus caused a number of game cancellations and schedule alterations.
Last year, games in most conferences were limited to only conference play. The Big Ten and Pac-12 seasons started late.
Even Notre Dame, long known as a football independent, joined the Atlantic Coast Conference for one season only to keep playing amid the pandemic. The Fighting Irish are back as an independent this year.
