The Georgia Office of Victim Services discovered the mishap, unable to find Guzman in the state penal system, and alerted Mosley's Victim Assistance Unit, she said.
Prosecutors checked the county jail system, where they found Guzman had been released from custody six months after he was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole, Mosley said.
Authorities told the AJC they were determining how Guzman was released.
