Execution Scheduled for Steven Frederick Spears, Who Killed Ex-Girlfriend in 2001
Spears' execution will be the eighth in Georgia so far this year.

Steven Frederick Spears, convicted for killing his ex-girlfriend in 2001, has been scheduled for execution on Nov. 16.
Spears, 54, was found guilty of murdering Sherri Holland of Dahlonega, after he suspected she had become romantically involved with someone else.
According to ABC News, a Georgia Supreme Court summary of the case, Spears killed her by choking her, wrapping tape around her mouth and face and putting a plastic bag over her head.

Spears also reportedly stole her vehicle when he left her home after killing her.
Spears reportedly has no plans to appeal his conviction or his execution.

AJC.com reports that if Spears' execution goes forward, it will be the eighth execution in Georgia since Jan. 1, which is more executions in 2016 than any other state in the U.S.
Georgia has had the most executions every year since the death penalty was reinstated across the country in 1976.
