Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:

  1. Yesterday, the 11th annual Atlanta Food & Wine Festival released discounted tickets for its early bird presale, available now through Jun. 30. The ultimate foodie event will be held from Sep. 15 to 18 in the Old Fourth Ward, Westside, and restaurants across the ATL. This year's theme is "A Love Letter to the South," with representatives from all 13 southern states converging in Atlanta to share their craft. (Atlanta Magazine)
  2. It seems like wild animals are enjoying the Atlanta BeltLine almost as much as the city's humans are! Six cameras placed along the BeltLine yielded over 28,000 pictures, with footage of 57 different species in and around the greenery. The BeltLine cameras are part of a project by Trees Atlanta, which aims to shed light on the wildlife living in our own backyards. (WABE 90.1 FM)
  3. McDonald's restaurants across the greater Atlanta region are offering new benefits to attract local jobseekers. One major perk is a student loan forgiveness program, which was piloted earlier this year for staff and managers across all 264 north Georgia franchises. Additional benefits include paid time off, flexible scheduling, employee meal programs, and tuition assistance. (CBS 46 News)
  4. A Walgreens tractor-trailer fire closed down a major Atlanta intersection yesterday morning. Shortly before 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jun. 23, the truck reportedly hit a pole, which let off a spark that started the blaze. Smoke covered the intersection of Briarcliff and North Druid Hills Road; all lanes were reopened later that morning. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  5. If you're looking to add a furry friend to your family, start your search with these adoptable Atlanta area pets. Weezer, Leopold, and more are awaiting their forever homes while staying in shelters in and around Atlanta. Visit Patch for pictures, descriptions, and information on taking one of these loveable fluffs home. (Atlanta Patch)

Are you an Atlanta resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
