4 Deadly Shootings In 4 Hours Punctuate Violent Atlanta Weekend

Police investigate pre-dawn violence Monday that left four dead in four separate shooting incidents all taking place within four hours.

ATLANTA — A violent weekend in Atlanta was topped off by four shooting deaths within four hours early Monday morning, police said.

The unrelated fatalities zig-zagged back and forth across the city from the southwest to the northwest to Buckhead in the northeast, adding to concerns of gun violence that has seen a striking surge in the past year.

Overall there were 13 shooting incidents, including two additional fatalities, from Friday to early Monday morning that Atlanta Police are investigating.

The first reported fatal shooting came around 1:30 a.m., on Georgia 400 when someone in a vehicle opened fire on another vehicle. Police were called to the scene at the Buford Highway Connector and Sidney Marcus Boulevard where they found one man in the vehicle that was shot with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Around 2:50 a.m., officers answering the report of gunfire found a woman who had been shot several times in the 800 block of Magnolia Way in northwest Atlanta. An emergency medical crew tried to save the woman’s life, but police said she died on the scene.

Police called to 1919 Metropolitan Parkway at 3:30 a.m., found a man with several gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries, according to police reports.

Finally, at around 4:20 a.m. Monday morning, a man was found shot dead in the bathroom of Azul Lounge at 2625 Piedmont Road in Buckhead.

Homicide investigators are looking into the circumstances behind each of these shootings, but police said that all reported information was “preliminary in nature and could change” as the respective investigations progress or new information comes to light.

  • Two more fatal shooting incidents include a woman found shot dead early Friday morning in the 2100 block of Belvedere Avenue in Beecher Hills, and a deadly shooting later that morning with a woman injured and a man killed in the 2100 block of Lang Street near the Lakewood neighborhood.
  • Saturday evening three men were caught in the crossfire as a dispute from a rooftop party at the Peninsula Apartments in Buckhead spilled over into a Home Depot parking lot next door in the 2500 block of Piedmont Road. The gunshot victims, ages 71, 55, and 22, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Other shootings include a man shot and injured while driving on I-20 westbound near I-285 on Friday morning, a drive-by shooting Friday at a bus stop in Atlanta's Adamsville neighborhood that left two men injured, and a gun attack on a woman driving through the Vine City neighborhood early Saturday morning.
  • Four people — three men and a woman — were injured during a drive-by shooting at the Trap Museum at 630 Travis Street. Police say the shooter was in a black Dodge Charger with red stripes.
  • A man in the Orchard Knob neighborhood in southeast Atlanta was shot and wounded Friday during a carjacking attempt, and police are investigating a shooting victim who they believe was attacked somewhere in the 300 block of 17th Street.

All of these incidents are under investigation.
