Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:
- On Monday, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens officially named the new police chief of the Atlanta Police Department. After serving as interim police chief, Darin Schierbaum will take on the role of official police chief. Schierbaum became the interim police chief after Chief Rodney Bryant's June retirement. He will be the 26th police chief of the Atlanta Police Department. (Atlanta Patch)
- Monday morning saw drivers on Interstate 285 struggling with traffic after two separate incidents shut down the highway. Lanes on both sides of I-285 near Roswell Road had to be closed after a major crash involving multiple tractor-trailers. Near Riverside Drive, a second accident involving an eight-car pileup closed an additional two right lanes near Riverside Drive. (Atlanta Patch)
- It's the end of an era for barbecue lovers in Atlanta. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q has shut its doors after five years. The three stalls in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium that have provided customers with hickory-smoked wings and Frito pies during games are now closed. The company served its last meals on Sunday during the game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers. (Eater Atlanta)
- An Atlanta murder suspect has been arrested after he was caught in metro Atlanta. 28-year-old Jawuan Gaston was apprehended on Oct. 27 in southwest Atlanta after police received information on his whereabouts. Gaston was wanted in connection to the murder of a man during a robbery on Oct. 1. He is facing multiple charges, including murder, association with a criminal street gang, and armed robbery. - The popular franchise Teriyaki Madness opens its first Atlanta location today. Atlanta local Gonzalo de Aristegui is the proud franchisee of the quick service, Seattle-style teriyaki shop. The restaurant will offer teriyaki bowls with chicken, steak, salmon, or tofu with stir-fried vegetables. There are plans to open another two Teriyaki Madness locations in Atlanta over the next two years. (What Now Atlanta)
