Fox Theatre To Boost Deaf, Hard Of Hearing Accessibility

ATLANTA, GA — The Fox Theatre has made an agreement with the U.S. Attorney's Office to improve the theater experience for the deaf and hard of hearing. The agreement culminates negotiations between the two entities to lead to better accessibility.

The changes come after complaints alleging that the theater denied effective communication to customers with hearing disabilities, in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

"The cooperative process between the Fox and our office led to this agreement and is an example of what can be accomplished through collaboration between private industry and the government," U.S. Attorney Byung Pak said in a release.

The theater added auxiliary aids like closed captioning, and will evaluate their effectiveness and explore new options to assist the deaf and hard of hearing, the releasey says.

"By strengthening the Fox Theatre's services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, this agreement will make a difference in the lives of people who are hard of hearing or deaf and wish to enjoy a live theatre performance," Pak said.
