Storms, Freezing Temps To Hit GA

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to pour Friday into metro Atlanta ahead of colder temperatures, forecasters say.

ATLANTA, GA — Georgia has recently been warm, rainy, windy and freezing — and weather officials say a cold blast bringing frost and freezing temperatures is on the way.

The National Weather Service on Friday said Sunday morning temperatures of low to mid-30s will chill north Georgia.

In Atlanta, there was a potential for showers after 5 p.m. and before 8 p.m. Friday. In other parts of the metro, including in Cobb County, thunderstorms were expected to arrive between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Low temperatures are expected to be in the 40s and 50s in the metro in the next few days.

This comes after an overnight storm slammed Georgia, heavily damaging Douglasville. A tree fell on a Horton Place home and seriously damaged the roof and siding, Fox 5 Atlanta reported, adding no one was injured.

Other trees came down in the city neighborhood, the news outlet reported.

Hail spanning more than 2 inches fell in Woodstock, according to the NWS.

Cobb and Floyd counties also saw large hail, Fox 5 reported.
