Fulton County Operation Watchful Eye: FCSO Watches Sex Offenders

The sheriff's office advised registered sex offenders to stay in their homes and not to accept trick-or-treaters.

FULTON COUNTY, GA — The Fulton County Sheriff's Office is participating in Operation Watchful Eye this year, an effort throughout Georgia to check on registered sex offenders on Halloween.

Registered sex offenders have been advised to stay in their homes unless they're working, and to elave porch lights off and not give out candy. They've also been advised not to open their doors to anybody but law enforcement, according to the release from the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office's sex offender unit will cover Southwest Atlanta, East Point, Fairburn, Hapeville, Union City and other areas.

The sheriff's office will begin assigning deputies their assigned areas at 4:30 p.m. on Halloween.

Use these tips to keep safe this Halloween, provided by the sheriff's office:

Safety Tips:

  • Use the buddy system
  • Stranger Danger: Never go into houses of people you don’t know
  • Lights on mean that trick or treaters are welcome
  • Only visit neighborhoods that are familiar
  • Adults should inspect candy to make sure it is safe for consumption
  • Be alert!
  • Dial 911 in the event of an emergency!

Drivers:

  • Motorists should be aware that lots of children and families will be out and about.
  • Don’t drink and drive ⸻ deputies and all law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers.
  • FYI, DUI spells a trip to the Fulton County Jail.

For Homeowners:

  • Turn your porchlights on if you plan to receive trick or treaters
  • Never let anyone into your home with whom you are unfamiliar
  • Keep your telephone on your person in case you need to dial 911.
