Fulton Jail Attack Critically Injures Inmate: Sheriff

An inmate is facing additional charges after authorities say she attacked another inmate at the Fulton County Jail.

ATLANTA, GA — An inmate is facing aggravated assault charges in connection with the attack of another inmate recently at the Fulton County Jail, authorities said.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday said they charged Shania White, 27, with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and tampering with evidence.

Authorities did not provide details into the suspected jail assault. Fulton County Jail records on Thursday showed the incident occurred on Sept. 22.

The 20-year-old woman who was attacked in the incident was in the hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

Fulton County Sheriff Patrick "Pat" Labat has met with her family, and they were able to visit her at the hospital, authorities said.

According to jail records, White was initially incarcerated on Aug. 15 on charges of theft by shoplifting, two counts of possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession and use of drug related objects.

"This is an ongoing investigation. The sheriff's office remains deeply concerned about the well-being of (the) inmate resident. ... Our thoughts are with her and her loved ones during this difficult time as she continues to receive medical care," authorities said in the release.
