ATLANTA, GA — The lawsuit remains, but Gov. Brian Kemp withdrew his request Tuesday for an emergency injunction against Atlanta’s mask mandate.

“The governor and the mayor continue to make progress negotiating directly on the issues addressed in the lawsuit,” Kemp spokesman Cody Hall said, as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

On July 16, Kemp’s office sued Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and the city council to stop Atlanta from requiring that everyone wear face coverings. Kemp said at the time that Atlanta’s mandate was “unenforceable.”
