INDIANAPOLIS, IN — After 41 years of trying, the Georgia Bulldogs are national champions, defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide 33-18 on Monday night in the College Football National Championship.
The Bulldogs (14-1) hadn't won a national title since a freshman running back named Herschel Walker led them to the championship game back in 1980. Georgia fans felt Monday's victory at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis was sweeter since it came against rival and No. 1 Alabama (13-2), according to an Associated Press report.
“I’ve never been around a group of players that really wanted it so bad and wouldn’t be denied,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart told the AP. “I told the guys in the locker room, just take a picture of this."
