Heavy Rain To Soak GA With New System: Latest Timeline

Forecasters told Patch after a night in the 30s, dreary days are ahead for Georgia.

A system trekking along the northern Gulf will bring bleak conditions and rainy skies later this week in Georgia, forecasters told Patch on Tuesday.

This comes after the Peach State has already had a bout with recent downpours.

The impending showers are not expected to be severe and could arrive Thursday night through Saturday, said Meredith Wyatt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office.

"We’ll continue to monitor how this system tracks and its movements," she said. "At this time, (we're) really anticipating cooler temperatures and dreary conditions like in (the) past few days."

Wyatt estimated up to 2-and-a-half inches of rainfall to drop from the sky, but there's a chance that the more concentrated areas can receive higher amounts.

Friday is the best opportunity for the heaviest widespread rainfall before the system begins to shift to Columbus, Macon and other areas south of metro Atlanta.

Lighter rain may drizzle in the northern areas, such as Blairsville, Adairsville and Rome.

"But everybody’s still going to receive some amount of rainfall," Wyatt said.

Metro Atlanta may freeze, as well, with 30-degree low temperatures anticipated Tuesday.

On Friday and Saturday nights, lows may sit between 37 and 41 degrees in the metro. This is before they could return to the lower 30s and upper 20s by Sunday or Monday, Wyatt said.

She reminded people to protect their pipes, plants and pets that may be outdoors. The NWS also advises care for people.

Updates will be posted on the weather service's Twitter page, the weather service's Facebook page and its website.
