Could GA Storms Dampen Mother's Day Plans? See Latest Forecast

A wet pattern in Georgia could threaten Mother's Day weekend plans for some families, starting Friday. See latest timeline.

ATLANTA, GA — Georgians may want to watch out for large hail and damaging winds on Friday as storms usher in Mother's Day weekend.

Isolated storms are expected to arrive between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday, but the National Weather Service warned some of the storms could become strong to severe.

Areas south and east of Macon are under a Level 1 marginal risk due to the storms' hazards, but metro Atlanta may not escape the severe weather.

As families observe Mother's Day on Sunday, they could be subjected to downpour and severe weather as the NWS predicted storms daily through at least Wednesday night.

The storms are expected to hit after 2 p.m. Sunday in metro Atlanta. Temperatures could linger in the high 60s.

Rainfall could accumulate up to 5 inches by Wednesday, possibly causing flooding of local rivers, the NWS said.

NWS meteorologist Ryan Willis told Patch this week that flooding may be problematic by Monday, though it is not currently an issue.
