Atlanta Honor Roll Student, 10, Shot And Killed In July 4th Accident

Ten-year-old boy is fatally shot in northwest Atlanta on the 4th of July, authorities say.

ATLANTA, GA -- A 10-year-old boy was shot and killed Tuesday in northwest Atlanta, according to news reports. The shooting occurred at the Etheridge Court at the Rolling Bends apartments, according to WAGA-TV.

Atlanta police are still investigating the shooting, news stations said. Early reports indicate that the boy was shot when an unsupervised group of children were playing with a gun. The child was identified as Sincere Jordan, according to WXIA-TV, who spoke to his aunt, Tedra Jordan. She said that the victim is the son of her sister, Marquita Jordan. “He was a nice, respectful, little young boy,” Tedra Jordan was quoted as saying.

Sincere was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the TV station reports.

“As of right now, we really don’t know exactly what happened,” police Capt. Reginald Moorman said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The boy's aunt said that he excelled in school and made the honor roll recently. “He got medals, he got awards, he got a lot of little things, he had something going for his self, he was a nice young man,” she said.

The child's identity was not immediately released, authorities told local media.
