President Barack Obama has declared a state of emergency in Georgia in advance of Hurricane Matthew's arrival, as hundreds of thousands of Georgians fled the coast toward metro Atlanta and other inland destinations.

Friday morning, the storm's eye was sitting just off of the northeast Florida coast, churning its way northward having already laid waste to Bahamas and Haiti, which updated its death toll Friday to more than 800. >>> Read more.

The stalwart, 24-hour breakfast chain has closed down at least 25 restaurants in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, Waffle House announced Friday morning on Twitter. And that's saying something.
