Intruder Shot, Then Arrested After Attacking Residents: Police

An Atlanta resident shot a would-be burglar who police said became violent after breaking into a home.

ATLANTA — A home invader is in jail after he was shot breaking into a northwest Atlanta home, police said.

Around 11:15 p.m., police were called to a home on Dahlia Avenue on a burglary response, according to Atlanta Police reports. Officers arrived to the home to find a man with multiple gunshot wounds nearby.

Officers learned that the man, 36-year-old Tyrell Johnson, had forced his way into the home and attacked someone living there. Another person living there shot Johnson several times, then called police, authorities said.

Johnson was charged with burglary and will be taken to the Fulton County Jail once he is released from the hospital, police said.
