ATLANTA, GA – For Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed was named Monday as a partner in a global law firm.

Squire Patton Boggs opened its Atlanta offices in 2018 with three partners and is adding Reed to the continued growth the firm has enjoyed in the city in recent years.

“Kasim is a landmark addition to our firm,” Global Managing Partner Fred Nance said of the high-profile hire. “His strong ties across the business community and public sector will open doors to new opportunities across our practice and his extensive career as a public servant dovetails with our market-leading public policy offering.”

Squire Patton Boggs operates in Germany, Africa, Latin America and India with practices in financial services, business integration, intellectual property, public policy, real estate and litigations, to name a few practice areas. Reed joins the firm’s global litigation practice.

“I’ve known attorneys at Squire Patton Boggs for many years and have always been impressed by the caliber of its people and vast international footprint,” Reed said in a statement. “When considering my return to private practice, it became clear that the firm offers a unique proposition to the market. Joining a firm that places such a high value on diversity was also incredibly compelling. The fact that so many of the firm’s leadership, including the global managing partner, and the team in Atlanta are diverse is unique and refreshing.”

Reed was a Georgia House representative for the state’s 35th District from 1998 to 2002, and beat out Mary Norwood to win the top seat in City Hall in the 2001 race. Toward the end of his two terms in office, he was dogged by scandal, including a federal investigation into corruption. Jury selection for the first of one of Reed’s associates, former city human services director Mitzi Bickers, began Monday in Federal Court as his new job was being announced, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Reed was kept from a return to office last year when Andre Dickens edged him out for Second Place in the general election of the Atlanta mayoral race. Dickens would later go on to defeat Felicia Moore in the subsequent runoff.
