Las Vegas Mass Shooting: Georgia Lawmakers Respond To Deadly Rampage

ATLANTA, GA — Hours after a gunman declared war on American citizens, shooting down people at a country concert on the Las Vegas strip Sunday, Georgia politicians are sharing their grief. As of late Monday, nearly 60 people were reported killed and 500 injured in the rampage, which is being called the largest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Police have identified 64-year-old Stephen Paddock of Mesquite, Nevada, as the lone gunman who open fired on the crowd with weapons from a room on the 32nd floor of a hotel. Paddock was killed from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot, authorities said.

"Praying for families of the victims of this horrific shooting and for first responders and doctors working to save others," Sen. Johnny Isakson said on Twitter Monday morning.

Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle said, "Nita and I are shocked to wake to this most horrific and heinous violence in Las Vegas. Join us in praying for the victims and their families."

Mayor Kasim Reed said that, “The City Of Atlanta stands with Las Vegas. Our thoughts & prayers are with the victims of yet another cowardly & senseless act of violence.”

Sen. David Perdue said that he was praying for the victims and first responders as well. Former Ga. House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, who is a Georgia gubernatorial candidate, also tweeted her condolences to Las Vegas. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families in Las Vegas and those affected by this horrific act of violence," she said.

President Trump addressed the nation Monday, calling the massacre "an act of pure evil." Law enforcement officials have descended upon the shooter's home in Mesquite, Nevada to search for clues as to what could have motivated such a heinous tragedy.
