Thunderstorm, Tornado Warnings Issued During GA Storms

ATLANTA, GA — Several watches and warnings, including for a possible tornado, have been issued across metro Atlanta and surrounding areas as Tuesday afternoon storms continue to roll through Georgia.
Additionally, a ground stop at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been extended until 5:15 p.m. due to thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

FlightAware data showed there were 571 delays at the Atlanta airport around 4:20 p.m. There have been a total of six flight cancellations at Hartsfield.

The National Weather Service on Tuesday warned severe storms that could conjure strong wind gusts, small hail and locally heavy rainfall are possible.
The threat of large quarter-sized hail was teetering at a Level 2, while the risk of tornadoes was approaching a Level 1 threat level for Tuesday afternoon into the evening. Damaging wind gusts could range from 40 to 60 mph.
Then, each day through Sunday night is priming up to have rainy periods. Saturday appears to be the only chance for sunshine this week in metro Atlanta.
With the isolated to scattered thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday could come frequent lightning, gusty to damaging winds and hail in north and central Georgia, according to the NWS.

Like most of the state, coastal Georgia will follow suit and experience daily storms similar to metro Atlanta.
A coastal flood advisory will go into effect from 7 to 11 p.m. Tuesday for the Savannah area.

This Afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. High near 75. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 4 a.m. Patchy fog after 9 p.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 62. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the morning.
Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m., then a chance of showers between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Thursday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 a.m., then showers likely between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. High near 79. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
Thursday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 a.m., then a chance of showers between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 a.m. Low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m., then showers likely between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
Friday Night: A slight chance of thunderstorms before 8 p.m. Mostly clear, with a low around 59. Chance of precipitation is 10 percent.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 79.
