Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:

  1. An Atlanta man has been arrested for shooting a woman on Monday afternoon. Patrick Lowe has been charged on suspicion of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arguing with a woman on Ponce de Leon Avenue in the 1000 block when the shooting took place. Lowe was taken to Fulton County Jail. (Patch)
  2. A nonprofit devoted to rehabilitating inmates and dogs is struggling to stay afloat. Canine Cellmates is an Atlanta nonprofit that lets former inmates from the Fulton County Jail train dogs rescued from the shelter. Inmates are taught to care for and train the dogs, while the dogs are prepared for adoption. The nonprofit will lose its facility on South Atlanta Road soon, as the building owner is selling the property. The charity is currently hunting for a new home, as well as any donations that could help them on their mission. (WSB Radio)
  3. A community-supported nonprofit is giving back to Atlanta teachers. The Grocery Spot in Grove Park's neighborhood offers a pay-what-you-can grocery shopping experience, which also allows for free grocery shopping for anyone who might need it. The grocery store is now offering special shopping hours for educators. Teachers and school employees are welcome to shop between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. A valid school ID is required. (11Alive.com WXIA)
  4. Officials are investigating a fire in the Morningside-Lenox Park neighborhood that happened on Tuesday morning. According to reports, an RV at North Morningside Drive caught on fire, and the fire then spread to a neighbor's garage. As of Tuesday, there are no known reported injuries. (Atlanta Patch)
  5. Want to keep the kids busy during winter break? Atlanta families will love the "Winter Break Safe Space Guide" which offers a list of places youth can spend school hours over winter break. Mayor Andre Dickens collaborated with various city partners to create the guide. (City of Atlanta Government)
