MARTA Train Strikes, Kills Trespasser Near Midtown Station

This is the second time in two weeks a MARTA train has hit and killed a trespasser.

ATLANTA — A MARTA train hit and killed a “trespasser” Friday afternoon at the Midtown station.

A MARTA spokesperson told The Atlanta-Journal Constitution that a southbound train “made contact with a trespasser” just after 3 p.m. while headed toward the Midtown station. The person, who has not yet been identified was pronounced dead at the scene.

MARTA trains were shut down temporarily between Arts Center and Civic Center stations while Atlanta Fire Rescue worked to remove the body from under the train. Regular service is expected to be restored by 7:30 p.m.

Atlanta TV Station Fox5 reports that this is the second time in two weeks that a MARTA train has struck and killed a trespasser. Last week, a trespasser was kllled at the Lenox station.
