National Doughnut Day Deals In Metro Atlanta

ATLANTA, GA -- Friday is National Doughnut Day, which means sweet deals for metro Atlantans. Multiple doughnut shops in the metro area are celebrating the day by offering free treats to customers.

The holiday, celebrated on the first Friday in June, traces its origins to World War I, when women used to serve doughnuts to the military. The act of kindness was so popular that the women were honored with what became National Doughnut Day. But you don't have to resort to history books to learn how sweet National Doughnut Day is. You should see and taste. Here are the deals in metro Atlanta:

Dunkin Donuts -- all locations: Patrons can grab a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any beverage.

Krispy Kreme -- all locations: Customers can grab one free donut of your choice. No purchase necessary.

Twisted Doughnuts & Cafe, 3153 Sugarloaf Pkwy #114, Lawrenceville, GA 30045: "National doughnut day is this Friday. We will give 1 free doughnut from our tier 1 until we run out. Only 1 doughnut per person and you must be present," the eatery said on Facebook this week.

Bon Glaze -- (2 locations) Brookhaven, 3575 Durden Dr Brookhaven Ga 30319 and Buckhead, 3794 Roswell Rd Atlanta Ga 30342: This location is offering a buy one, get one free deal for National Doughnut Day. Also, you can participate in the National Doughnut Day Contest for a chance to win a free gourmet dozen.

Dough in the Box -- 3184 Austell Rd SW, Marietta, GA 30008. The eatery is offering one free doughnut per person. "Free Glazed Donut!!!!! And new flavors! Enjoy HAPPY NATIONAL DONUT DAY!!!" the eatery said on Facebook Friday morning.

Da Vinci's Donuts (3 locations) -- Sandy Springs, 5610 Glenridge Dr. Suite 103 Sandy Springs, GA 30342, : The eatery is offering a free doughnut at its three locations metro Atlanta locations. "7 hours until #free #maplebacon donut!!!," the shop said on Facebook.

Revolution Doughnuts (2 locations): 908 West College Ave Decatur, GA 30030 and 745 Edgewood Ave. NEAtlanta, GA 30307: Patrons can grab a "free mini Birthday Cake doughnut" with each purchase while supplies last.

On Facebook, the eatery said: "It's that time of year again! Friday, June 2nd, we'll be celebrating National Doughnut Day as well as Revolution Doughnuts' fifth birthday! Come out to our Decatur or Inman Park shops and receive a free mini Birthday Cake doughnut with each purchase while supplies last."

Donut Theory, 11500 Webb Bridge Way #3b, Alpharetta, GA 30005: With purchase, customers can get one glazed doughnut hole on a stick.

And if you're still in the mood for doughnut love after Friday, 2 Urban Licks (820 Ralph McGill Boulevard in Atlanta, Ga.) is now offering on its Saturday and Sunday brunch menu, the $5 Sophia’s Biggie Donut, featuring marshmallow glaze, crushed Graham cracker, dark chocolate ganache and toasted Swiss meringue for just $5.
