NBA Draft 2023: Hawks Select Michigan's Bufkin, Penn State's Lundy

BROOKLYN, NY — The Atlanta Hawks selected Thursday night a Wolverine and a Nittany Lion in the 2023 NBA Draft at the Barclay's Center.

The Hawks chose University of Michigan's Kobe Bufkin as the 15th pick, and Seth Lundy, who was the 46th pick from Pennsylvania State. Both players are guards.

The NBA reported the Hawks also gained draft rights for Mouhamed Gueye, a forward who was drafted 39th by the Boston Celtics.

Bufkin, 19, is a sophomore who earned Third-team All-Big Ten honors and was named a McDonald’s All-American in 2021, according to his NBA Draft profile.

"Bufkin is a do-it-all combo guard specializing in scoring at the basket. His body control and offensive polish are impressive," league officials wrote in the profile.

Lundy, 23, a senior, was previously on the All-Big Ten Honorable Mention team and the Big Ten All-Tournament team, according to his NBA Draft profile.

"Lundy is a solidly built wing with a smooth jumper who thrives in catch-and-shoot situations. He’s shown an ability to make tough jumpers with a hand in his face," league officials wrote in the profile.

The Celtics is expected to trade Gueye, from Senegal, to the Hawks at a later date. While at Washington State University, Gueye was part of the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team in 2021-22.
