ATLANTA, GA — The Atlanta Humane Society is asking for community assistance as it works to rescue nearly 100 animals from "deplorable conditions" in northwest Georgia, the society said in a news release Friday.

The society's Animal Protection Unit has been deployed to remove the animals from an unidentified location. The society did not identify the type of animals needing to be saved.

The animals are living in their own feces in stacked crates and are covered in ringworm, lice and fleas, society staff said.

"Our team is working quickly to remove the animals from the property," the society said in the release.

Community donations could help with the rescue, staff said. Charles and Virginia Bagley at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta are matching donations up to $80,000, the society said.
