North Georgia Could See Snow This Weekend

PEACHTREE CITY, GA -- National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters are calling for heavy rainfall this weekend across north and central Georgia, including all of metro Atlanta, and there is the potential for a winter storm in far northeast Georgia.

"The period of most concern is Saturday night into Sunday for the mountains and far northeast counties," the NWS said in a Thursday morning statement. "At this time, the counties most likely
affected are Eastern Fannin, Eastern Dawson, Union, Lumpkin, Towns, White, Hall and Banks. It is way too early to mention amounts but this is the area with the greatest chances for accumulations."

Forecasters are expecting a widespread area of 2.5 to 3 inch totals from Columbus
to Rome and points east, and isolated flooding.

Sunny, with a high near 48. Calm wind.

Thursday Night

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.

Friday

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Friday Night

A chance of rain and sleet, mainly after 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 40. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday

Rain. High near 43. East wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Saturday Night

Rain. Low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Sunday

Occasional rain. High near 42. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Sunday Night

A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 36.

Monday

A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 43.

Monday Night

A 30 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 35.
