Created by Atlanta artist Gregor Turk, the piece plays with themes of surveillance, reflection, and sense of place in what he calls the nation’s most surveilled city.

2. Business damaged as 500 teens swarm Atlantic Station (fox5atlanta.com) — Atlanta police say about 500 teens created chaos at Atlantic Station Saturday night, with fireworks escalating into gunfire that struck nearby Nan Thai Fine Dining and sent diners to the floor. Officers had initially responded to reports of shots that turned out to be fireworks, but later gunfire near 17th and Spring Streets raised concerns about how youth crowds are managed despite the district’s curfew rules.

3. 2 injured after plane crashes in Atlanta neighborhood (wrdw.com) — Two people suffered minor injuries after a small prop plane crashed Sunday morning in a DeKalb County neighborhood near Dunwoody and Doraville, within the Atlanta area. The plane, headed for DeKalb-Peachtree Airport from Miami, clipped trees but missed homes, and federal investigators are now working to determine what caused the engine trouble and crash.

4. Delta flight returns to Atlanta after engine problem detected (wsbtv.com) — A Delta flight bound for Jacksonville had to return safely to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday after the crew detected an engine issue shortly after takeoff. All 191 passengers and six crew members were safe, and Delta says the trip will continue later on a different aircraft while apologizing to travelers for the disruption.

5. 3 healthy(ish) New Year's Eve recipes for a good and good-for-you party (atlantamagazine.com) — Atlanta home cooks looking for lighter New Year’s Eve bites get three party-ready recipes, including a za’atar white bean dip using spices easily found at Middle Eastern markets around the city. The piece walks you through make-ahead hors d’oeuvres and a festive nonalcoholic spritz so you can celebrate without completely abandoning healthy habits.
