Packaging Company Recovers From Ransomeware Attack
WestRock closing the gap on production and shipping after falling prey to cyberattack.
SANDY SPRINGS — WestRock, the Sandy Springs-based packaging company, is recovering from a ransomware attack two weeks ago.
The cyberattack compromised the company’s operational and information technology systems and leading to a drop in its stock value.
Friday the company reported a number of steps to isolate the problem while continuing to serve customers. These protocols included following manual procedures to complete customer orders.

“We remain relentlessly focused on remediating this incident while continuing to safely operate our mills and converting plants,” said Steve Voorhees, chief executive officer in a statement. “I am proud of the focus and determination of the WestRock team as we manage through this incident and deliver essential products for our customers.”
The company said that all of its mills and converting locations are producing and shipping paper and packaging products, although shipments have lagged, company officials said. But the production gap is closing quickly, officials said.
