Police Officer, Victim Shot During Clayton County Robbery Attempt

CLAYTON COUNTY, GA – A Clayton County Police officer is recovering at home after being shot during a robbery attempt Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Arterio Lerente Crumbley, of Jonesboro, is in jail in connection with the incident and is being charged with robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated assault against a police officer, and probation violation, according to jail records.

According to police records, Crumbley robbed a store in the 5400 block of Riverdale Road near College Park just before 2 p.m. During the robbery, police said Crumbley shot the officer and one other person, before running from the building.

Both shooting victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Officer Ryan Richey underwent surgery and was released from Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center late Wednesday night, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The other shooting victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police told the AJC.

Crumbley turned himself in late Wednesday night at the Clayton County Jail and is being held without bond, police and jail officials said.
