Police Shoot Man Accused Of Threatening Store Customers

A police shooting injured a man after a brief chase, and an Atlanta officer suffered a leg injury, authorities say.

ATLANTA, GA — A man is in stable condition after being injured in a police shooting Monday evening at Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, authorities said Tuesday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the incident happened around 6:30 p.m. An Atlanta officer was responding to a call regarding a man threatening customers at a local store.

After arriving, the GBI said the officer saw the 29-year-old Atlanta man matching the description from the 911 call and approached him. The man was then accused of backing away and running from the scene.

The officer chased the man, who then went into a storage shed behind a vacant home, police said. The officer tried to detain the man, but he ignored commands, the GBI said.

The man then "advanced" toward the officer and pushed her over before the officer shot and injured the man, the GBI said.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and remained stable, the GBI said.

The officer suffered minor injuries to her leg, Atlanta Police said.

Once the investigation is complete, the case will be provided to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
