Popular BBQ Eatery Shutters GA Site After 20 Years

CUMBERLAND, GA — The sole Shane's Rib Shack in Cobb County has closed.

Shane's Rib Shack, 3155 Cobb Pkwy. in Atlanta's Cumberland area, closed its doors for the last time on July 27 after more than 20 years in the area, according to a note on the restaurant's entry door and a post on its Facebook page.

The popular eatery served celebrated barbecue items, such as chopped chicken and pork, baby back ribs, smoked and fried chicken wings and macaroni and cheese. Other dishes included the Shack potato and the Shack fries.

"To our amazing guests and community, After much thought, we've made the difficult decision to close the Cumberland Shane’s Rib Shack. ... Thank you for the years of support, memories, and meals shared. It’s been an honor to serve you. You can continue to enjoy Shane’s and your Cumberland crew at these nearby locations!" read the July 27 Facebook post.

It is unknown why the Cumberland site was shuttered, but it joins several other Shane's locations in Georgia to recently close. The location has been removed from the company website, and it is listed as permanently closed on Google.

For Cobb County customers, the nearest Shane's locations are 5770 Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Norcross and 1221 Caroline St. NE in Atlanta's Edgewood community.

Additionally, Shane's Cartersville site is listed as temporarily closed on Google and is no longer listed on the company website. It is unknown if or when the restaurant will reopen.

Dunwoody and Peachtree City are other Georgia sites that are listed as permanently closed on Google.

It appears the Jonesboro Road Shane's in McDonough has closed, as well, according to Yelp. The restaurant has also been removed from the company website.

A reason for the closures was not immediately known.

Shane's Rib Shack was born in McDonough thanks to founder Shane Thompson, according to the company biography.
