ATLANTA, GA — Police have released new details regarding the death of admired Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan while his father told a local radio station he is "broken into a million pieces."

Rich Homie Quan, 34, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, was found unresponsive by girlfriend Amber Williams Thursday at his Hamden Forest Drive home, Atlanta Police said. An official cause of death has not been released.

Father Corey Lamar told the Atlanta-based 94.5's Streetz Morning Takeover that he is "still searching for answers" following his son's death. He told rapper and radio host Yung Joc he is thankful for the encouraging words from the Atlanta community.

"That does help the process, but it's a very difficult situation to lose a child - not only a child, (but) Quan's my best friend," the elder Lamar said in the phone interview.

Corey Lamar said he instilled humility, helpfulness and kindness in his son and taught him to never look down on anyone. He said he told the "Type of Way" rapper that his present choices will shape his future.

Corey Lamar said his son's home-going celebration will be a "grand occasion."

"Without the fans, there would be no Quan," his son said, later adding he wants the celebration to be "bigger than life."

An incident report Atlanta Police released showed Dequantes Lamar was first found laying on the floor with food in his mouth around 3 a.m. Thursday by his brother, Andre Munford.

Police said Dequantes Lamar was asleep on the floor by the kitchen counter. Munford, who police said thought it was "unusual" that his brother had food in his mouth at the time, carried him to the couch.

Nearly four hours later, Williams said she awakened to do school drop-off when she noticed Dequantes Lamar had not come to bed. She then found him asleep on the sofa, police said.

In a 911 call, which Patch reviewed, a woman who identified herself as Williams is heard saying she covered him with a blanket.

After returning home, police said Williams saw Dequantes Lamar still asleep. She proceeded to the bedroom, where she fell asleep until about 11 a.m. When she went to check on him, she noticed his body was cold and notified 911, police said.

Dequantes Lamar was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

No foul play was suspected in Dequantes Lamar's death, however APD's Homicide Unit arrived at the scene.

Aside from "Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)," Dequantes Lamar is known for his hit "Lifestyle" with fellow rapper Young Thug. The duo partly formed Cash Money Record's Rich Gang.

Dequantes Lamar had five children, the entertainment news outlet People reported.

“While he leaves us with an undeniable hole in our hearts, we are comforted by knowing his music and triumphant spirit lives on. Quan’s legacy will forever be cemented as a soundtrack to our lives. And for this, we are grateful. Celebration of life details will be shared soon. Thank you to everyone for your kind words and support at this difficult time," his family told People in a statement.
