Severe Storms Could Target GA: See New Timeline
Weather officials on Wednesday told Patch the severe weather could continue after a couple of dry days in Georgia. See the latest timing.
ATLANTA, GA — After a couple of days of sunshine in Georgia, weather officials told Patch that more storms are on the way to the Peach State.
A low-pressure system will be traveling northeast from the East Coast and into the Carolinas, possibly dropping much moisture Wednesday and Thursday into Georgia, National Weather Service meteorologist Lindsay Marlow told Patch on Wednesday.
This could happen before an approaching front and other contributing factors potentially create severe storms during the weekend, she said.

Patchy showers and isolated embedded thunderstorms moving from the southeast may lead to increased rain chances after 1 p.m. Wednesday in metro Atlanta and surrounding areas. Marlow said the greatest rain chance will come later in the afternoon and into the evening, clearing out by nightfall.
There is no severe weather anticipated Wednesday so far; however, Marlow said the NWS' Storm Prediction Center reported some showers can become thunderstorms.

Storms are expected daily through at least Tuesday, but Marlow said the highest probability for severe weather is Friday into Saturday when the NWS is foreseeing issuing a Level 2 out of 5 slight risk for severe weather.

Marlow said a line of storms could bring damaging wind gusts and isolated large hail. This would depend on the maintenance of the storms into northwest Georgia, she added.
May storms hit hard in Georgia, most recently spurring an EF-2 tornado that injured "The Wire" actor Tray Chaney and his son. Marlow said the storms were common for the state during this time of the year.
"Our spring severe season between March and May is where we see most of our activity," she said, noting it is not unusual for the storm activity to continue into June, particularly when development patterns offers support for severe storms.
Updates will be posted on the weather service's X (formerly Twitter) page, the weather service's Facebook page and its website.
