ATLANTA, GA — The unofficial start to summer will be wet as storms are forecast to batter Georgia on Memorial Day weekend.

The National Weather Service on Friday alerted residents to the "unsettling" weather pattern set to start Saturday.

While north Georgia may escape the 90-degree heat, the region may face scattered thunderstorms that could last through next week, the NWS reported. By Monday, Memorial Day, the storms could spread to other parts of the state.
