Street Racing Deterred By Metal Plates In Road: Reports

Atlanta officials had the metal plates put down at the intersection of Piedmont Road and 10th Street to deter street racing and burnouts.

ATLANTA, GA – After two weekends of drag racers doing burnouts to leave skid marks on Atlanta’s iconic rainbow crosswalks, city officials have taken steps to stop the street racing.

Channel 2 Action News reports that city crews installed metal plates in the intersection of 10th Street and Piedmont Road with the hopes of disrupting spinning tires attempting to do doughnuts in the road.

The last two weekends in February, Atlanta Police have been called to investigate cars spinning out and leaving rubber tire marks across the rainbow crosswalks as onlookers watched and cheered.

“We have identified several individuals and their vehicles,” Tyus said. “We determined that a lot of these individuals were not residents of the city, but simply people who drove into our city to conduct their foolishness.”
