Arrest Made In Deadly Centennial Olympic Park Taxi Carjacking

ATLANTA, GA — Police have arrested a man accused of shooting and killing a 72-year-old cab driver and stealing his cab from the Centennial Olympic Park area.

On Feb. 15 around 4:45 p.m., police called to a shooting report at 437 Centennial Olympic Park Drive arrived to find Frederick Emerje laying near the street with a gunshot wound. The septuagenarian was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Investigators learned that Emerje’s van had been stolen and after initial searching, were unable to the vehicle.

“We did move forward relentlessly investigating this case, exhausting several resources throughout the department and trying to locate this individual,” Atlanta Police homicide unit commander Lt. Ralph Woolfolk said. “We did solicit the public’s help in locating that taxi cab. You were instrumental in helping us in locating that van.”

Friday, with the help of tips from the public, police were able to find the van and search it for clues. They were able to identify 48-year-old Elibra Allen of Clayton County and arrested him Tuesday on felony murder and gun possession charges.

Allen, who is being held without bond at the Fulton County Jail, is also there on a Fulton County warrant for family violence simple battery, and an undisclosed Clayton County warrant, according to jail records.
