Thanksgiving 2025 Best Celebrated In This GA Town, Experts Say

As families make plans for Thanksgiving, experts say the cherished holiday is best spent in a Georgia town full of shops and restaurants.

ATLANTA, GA — Turkey Day will soon bring families together in Atlanta, which has recently been named the second-best place to go for Thanksgiving.

Atlanta is the sole Georgia city to land on WalletHub's top 100 list, gobbling up its competition. The personal finance agency released the national list Tuesday.

Georgians will be feasting on turkey and trimmings as Thanksgiving flies into town on Nov. 27.

WalletHub used 18 key metrics, including weather forecasts and flight delays, to determine rankings for its recent holiday survey. Only San Antonio, Texas bested Atlanta.

“The best cities for celebrating Thanksgiving all have an abundance of high-quality restaurants and places to buy festive decorations, and their residents get very excited for the holiday based on their Google search history," WalletHub Analyst Chip Lupo said in the report. "Other features make individual cities stand out; for example, San Antonio has great weather, Atlanta has a fantastic track record for on-time flights and Virginia Beach has surprisingly affordable accommodations.”

Atlanta outperformed Stockton, California, the worst place for Thanksgiving in the ranking.

According to WalletHub, Atlanta is home to a host of holiday decoration shops and highly-rated eateries per capita.

Some restaurants offering Thanksgiving feasts include Hattie B's (locations in East Atlanta and West Midtown), Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse (locations in Dunwoody and Buckhead) and Sweet Auburn Barbecue (locations in Atlanta and McDonough).

Experts said Google searches show Atlanta residents have exhibited tons of interest in celebrating Thanksgiving.

The southern town, home to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, has proven to have minimal flight delays during the busy season.

WalletHub said only 12 percent of flights coming in or out of Atlanta this time a year ago were delayed, the 11th-lowest percentage in the U.S - though it is unclear how flights will be impacted this year due to the extensive government shutdown.

Atlanta is among the top cities for the number of charities per capita as its residents give an average of 5.3 percent of their income to charity, the 22nd-highest percentage in the U.S., WalletHub said.
