Tornadoes, Hail Possible As Severe Storms Move Into In GA

A line of severe storms is forecast to move across the Atlanta area Monday, bringing high winds, hail and a risk of tornadoes to the region.

ATLANTA, GA — A line of severe thunderstorms is expected to move north and central Georgia on Monday, bringing high wind gusts and a risk of tornadoes and severe hail to the area beginning late in the afternoon.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 1 p.m. for Dade, Walker, Catoosa and Chattooga counties in northwest Georgia for the potential of damaging winds with these storms.

And the National weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for multiple Georgia counties on Monday, including Barrow, Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, and Paulding.

"A line of storms moving across the forecast area this morning through the afternoon will be capable of damaging wind gusts, hail, and isolated tornadoes. Thunderstorms may redevelop behind the line later in the afternoon, posing a second threat for severe weather," the National Weather Service said.

Storms will again be possible across parts of north and central Georgia on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the NWS said.

Temperatures will also climb later in the week, with a high in the low 80s on Wednesday and close to 90 degrees by Friday, numbers well above normal that could reach near record levels.

The line of strong thunderstorms initially formed Sunday afternoon, resulting in severe weather in Missouri, Tennessee and Michigan, where large hail and tornadoes were reported, AccuWeather said.

"The same storm to produce the severe weather risk on Sunday will continue to plague residents farther east from Monday to Monday night," according to AccuWeather forecasters.

The entire East Coast, from New England to the Gulf Coast, is at risk of severe weather on Monday, The Weather Channel reported.

"Through the day and into the early evening, some of the ongoing storms will intensify and new ones will form ahead of the cold front while spreading to the East Coast," according to The Weather Channel report.

Ahead of the thunderstorms, expect temperatures to warm into the mid-70s across the Atlanta area.
