Trial Begins For Man Accused Of Raping Woman Behind Church
The victim was walking along an Atlanta street when she was abducted and driven to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where she was assaulted.
ATLANTA -- The trial of a man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman behind an Atlanta church began Monday. Kristopher Roberson, 38, is on trial for multiple charges, including rape, aggravated assault and false imprisonment.
On August 8, 2014, the victim was walking along Smith Street in Atlanta when a gold Jeep pulled up beside her. The Jeep came to a stop and prosecutors said Roberson exited the vehicle. Wielding a knife, Roberson allegedly forced the victim into the Jeep and then drove to the Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church on Joseph E. Boulevard.
At some point during the attack, the victim escaped and fled the scene. Roberson was later arrested by police when they spotted a vehicle that matched the description. He has been previously convicted of aggravated assault with intent to rape in another Georgia jurisdiction.
