Here are the top five stories in Atlanta today:
- The Invest Atlanta Board has officially approved $39 million in funding to create more affordable housing. The money will be used to purchase 2 Peachtree St. from the state. The area will be converted into affordable housing. The project is expected to create hundreds of housing units. (Reporter Newspapers + Atlanta Intown)
- Four people have been injured in a shooting incident at Clark Atlanta University. Early Sunday, students were celebrating their homecoming outside a campus library where a DJ was playing. Shots were fired from a vehicle that injured four people, including three students. Police arrived on the scene, but no arrests have been made. None of the injuries were critical. - A deadly crash in northwest Atlanta left two people dead and others injured. The incident occurred near the intersection of Northside Drive and 14th Street on Thursday morning. Atlanta police tried to stop a vehicle; it sped through a red light and struck another car. The driver of the second vehicle, 39-year-old Bracho Barriors, as well as the passenger in the front seat, 27-year-old Gemini Jerome Jackson, were killed in the crash. Three passengers in the backseat were rushed to the hospital. The driver of the first vehicle suffered serious injuries. (11Alive.com WXIA)

- Georgia unemployment is once again at record lows. This is the third month in a row where unemployment rates have held steady at 2.8% – a record low. Meanwhile, the number of jobs currently hiring in the state has been at an all-time high. The national average for unemployment is 3.5% as of September reports.
